Overview

Kalundewa Villa Retreat Sri Lanka lies in 100 acres of land spread as part of a rural village nearly 150km from Colombo city. The ECO retreat was the result of a journey to combine a secluded farming community and integrate travelers to live in commune with nature and its majestic beauty.

There are just 6 guest bedroom units in a land in extent of 100 acres and to maintain a minimum human footprint. There will be no more structures build except those, that will aid the natural environment to flourish. The Kalundewa Villa Retreat Sri Lanka has minimised any impact to the wildlife of the area including birds, insects and fish species living in the surrounding waterways; as well as trees and creepers. The long term aim is to convert to 100% organic farmland, applying safe, traditional and modern farming technology in order to provide the best advantage for all of the species of flora and fauna that thrive here.

Kalundewa Villa Retreat is blessed with many waterways. Most have been restored from derelict conditions and have been fortified and reconstructed to irrigate the land for agriculture. Expertise for this project was sought from an environmental group who is part of the Mahaweli Diversion Scheme.

The Kalundewa Villa Retreat has one of the largest collections of herbal plants and varieties of fruit trees in one location in Sri Lanka, with vegetables cultivated for meals at the retreat. Guests have the option to visit the garden with the Chef to learn about the local vegetables, and also select some to be included in meals.

Enjoy your meals by the lake’s edge, on the pool deck, on a floating raft or just under the stars in a rice field. Kalundewa Retreat offers you endless natural ambiance while you are spoiled for choice by a delicious cuisine.

Wake up to the morning sun rising above the Kalundewa mountain and the voice of the farmers singing traditional verses. This stylish suites are built in the middle of a paddy field to put you in the center of nature. 
Situated on the ground level, the deluxe Nika & Ahela rooms provide intimacy and splendour.

Enjoy wide open spaces, a natural spring, a lake and a thriving vegetable garden that is an essential part of the retreat.
